shropcamp
Public Group active 1 year agoA localgovcamp for Shropshire. Or even a localpublicservicescamp for Shropshire. Focusing on how local service providers can use online tech to deliver better services. Probably with a smattering of what this means for rural communities thrown in too.

shropcamp: 1 year, 1 month ago · ViewDead excited about tomorrow! I’d really like to run a session discussing micro-participation (see http://davepress.net/tag/microparticipation/ some background) which will be more of a chat than anything. Also I have a talk introducing digital engagement in government which some find entertaining and which I’m happy to do. See you all tomorrow!

Looking forward to attending. Not sure about running a session but more than happy to bend the ear in an informal session stylee about the interface between public and volcom sectors at a local level.
Also small community groups can be left behind as we all ramble on about Twitter-this and Facebook-that whilst they just want to get on with serving their communities! So how can surgery sessions help or access to simple factsheets or e-learning increase knowledge and confidence? -

Have posted my shropcamp blog and prezi http://www.penval.co.uk/news/the-geek-layer hoping enough folk want to join in and put their views in true unconference style

Penval will be hoping to organise a session on The Geek Layer – new community champions helping to create smart rural places. We’re hoping to attract folk who want to know more and folk who have the true geekiness to make this possible

Probably going to cause chaos here by asking if anyone else can do something, rather than offering to do it myself! But hey, life is too short! So, is there anyone attending Shropcamp who might be interested in running abit of a workshop exploring how third sector organisations can both access data, interpret data, and also store their own data in ways which inform, involve and increase transparency? Only a little ask, but I would be very interested…… so you would have at least one attentive participant
I’d like to second this. Is there anyone going who can offer this?
it’s a conversation i’d like to have though i am not sure how illuminating i can be
In that case Philip lets meet! I don’t look much like my avatar you will be pleased to hear – thats a scarecrow from our village scarecrow trail last year. Come and see me at the Penval stand if you have a moment and no workshop materialises on this. I think there is alot to be discussed and alot of understanding to be developed to enable third sector to participate enthusiastically and my interest is in exploring ways of making data access and recording a tangible benefit for sector organisations. It has so much potential, but is in the unknown and too hard to do box and on top of civil society challenges generally has very little chance of making it into everyday conversation in the sector right now!
cool, so many of our member orgs are so far removed from data and if mention it it seems to scare them

shropcamp: 1 year, 1 month ago · ViewIf there’s a slot free and people want it, I’d like to do a session on the Talk About Local story so far – going through some of the hyperlocal websites we love most emerging from talk about local training – a quick tour of england from Dartmoor to Sheffield via Ambridge.

Data is People
Working with small groups has made me realise that the rush to do something, and to be seen to be doing something, occasionally means we run past the important bit about thinking clearly about why and how we are doing it.
This is 40 minutes to anti-geek you with some back to basics theory and practice about:
Setting aims
Working on strategy
Knowing your market
Getting information from IRL to the web and back again
& asking ”Whose data is it anyway?”I do lots of training on a regular basis and always try and make it fun and interactive. Sadly there is no voting on this forum ;-p you’ll have reply and say aye!

I am thinking of running a session on a data warehouse project I am involved in – this is a storage facility for a group of partners to upload their data to – data can then be mapped across neighbourhoods. This can be used to influence how partners work together, map trends, hot spots etc.
