I’m interested in the remote usability testing idea, definitely – also whether online remote usability testing services are ever worth using (e.g. the ones with their own panels). I’d be interested to know about the options for testing out new concepts, as well as reviewing live services.
In reply to - Michele Ide-Smith posted an update in the group UKGovcamp 2012 : I can offer a few potential sessions which I hope will be useful and pertinent given the MLF ’digital by default’ report on DirectGov that led to the new Government Digital Service being set up. 1) Introduction to running remote usability testing sessions with users. 2) How [...] · View -
Yes, definitely. Taking off in a big way in some central gov departments too. Might be worth following up on the Saturday with a session to come up with some sort of document (guidance? policy?) to pacify the big cheeses when they suddenly discover 2,000 staff are Yammering
In reply to - Tom Phillips posted an update in the group UKGovcamp 2012 : Would there be interest in a session to share experiences of using Yammer? I ran a well-received one at localgovcamp last June, which attracted experienced users and those just beginning to dabble. I get the impression there is growing interest in Yammer for in-house comms, interest in [...] · View -
In reply to - Graham posted an update in the group UKGovcamp 2012 : Anyone interested in a kind of ”engaging with data” type session? From making LIS’s attractive, through to integrating data with other services/apps, and community-led data – the idea would be to focus on making #opendata interesting to citizens, rather than a tech/stats-heavy look at the data [...] · View

There’s normally a session on WordPress run by Simon Dickson and chums, but it’s a grand idea to take things back to blogging, which has fallen by the wayside a bit as one of the cool tools
In reply to - Mark Braggins posted an update in the group UKGovcamp 2012: Is anyone planning a session on blogging using Wordpress? I’m a newbie blogger and would love to hear hints n tips from experienced bloggers · View -

Good point, Janet. Just done a bit of spring cleaning, and hoping things will heat up soon when we start to announce the first batch of tickets for UKGovcamp 2012…
In reply to - Janet E Davis posted an update: Remembered to log in to have a look at what’s happening here…Not a great deal, apart from spam – which is a pity because there have been a lot of things going on and people talking about them. · View -

Event wrap-up 8 months, 3 weeks ago · View
Well that was lots of fun. On Thursday, around 80 people (plus others following on Twitter) heard 14 great talks about email. We talked about selecting a new email service provider, using email to drive engagement in web communities, using picture-focussed emails to showcase work around the world, saving money though email alerts on snow [...] -

If you’re signed up to come to the event, you should have received the joining instructions by email earlier this week. If you’re signed up but didn’t get the email… Thanks for signing up for MailCamp. We’ve had over 100 people register representing central & local government and the wider public sector, charities and private sector [...]

Three sleeps ’til MailCamp folks! The joining instructions to those signed up have just gone out, but we’ll hold the registration page open until the end of the day for any late stragglers. Govcamping is a team effort, so on the day itself, we’re going to need a few helpers: A small crew to join me picking [...] -

There’ s been a great response to MailCamp so far with over 90 people signed up to the interest list, including folks from some great charities, local authorities, central government departments, agencies and email marketing specialists. Thanks to our kind host @marxculture of the Department for Communities and Local Government and the support of GovDelivery, I’m delighted to announce that MailCamp 2011 is happening on 12 May 2011, from 3.30-7.30pm. It’s shaping up to a fascinating afternoon of show+tell, pizzas and conversation about what works in the crucial field of public sector [...]

Yes, do come if you can. Not everyone will talk, but we’re aiming to have as many as possible – even if it’s about effective newsletters you’re on the receiving end of. Will try and record/live blog what we can, but it’s unlikely to be streamed.
In reply to - Martin Feekins posted an update in the group MailCamp: I’m very interested in attending, but we’re at the early stages of investigating the topics the event will cover, so wouldn’t have much to add to a show & tell. I’d be there to learn from others. Would that be appropriate and do you think it would be [...] · View -
Great John! The date has now shifted to 12th, rather than the 10th, following some double booking problems. Would be great to have you present if you can make it (3.30-7.30pm)
In reply to - John Turnbull posted an update in the group MailCamp: Steph, I’d like to come. We’ve had some experience of newsletters at BIS, which I’d be happy to share. Thu or Fri good for me. · View -
Thanks Shaun. Actually, the date has now shifted to 12th, rather than the 10th, following some double booking problems. Would be great to have you present if you can make it (3.30-7.30pm)
In reply to - Shaun Harley posted an update in the group MailCamp: I’ve been using emails for several years to sell stuff. Our open and click rates are very good, so happy to share thoughts on design, copywriting and exotic tricks like A/B splits. I’m in London on the 10th but could only do the afternoon. · View -

How does early-mid May sound as a potential event date? Unlike regular Govcamps, I was thinking this might be on a weekday – perhaps a Friday? – running either all day or from lunchtime until early evening, with subsidised drinks.
