That will be really helpful – problem is putting names to faces. Twitter list would be great and/or the video at the start – youTube?

There was a Twitter list (or was – it seems to have disappeared). I still have a delegate list – at some point I will email folk a round up and encourage them to join this group.

I think James Coltham created a twitter list – look in his profile – he’s @prettysimple

Good to meet you Nick although it was a bit ”in passing” – a busy & enjoyable day – I’ll take a closer look at what you do when I get 5 minutes

          Twitter list rescued. At https://twitter.com/#list/prettysimple/scotgovcamp

Steve’s going to do some fancy stuff with the video, but it’s a fair bit of work, so probably won’t happen until we are on holiday (in a couple of weeks)

An interesting document, particularly as it just touches on ways that data may be used. In fact, what is more exciting is the prospect of how data may be used in the future that we haven’t even dreamt of (new knowldege based services). The flip side is that there will be some resistance to revealing data. Some data we can’t release (e.g. covered by Data Protection) but in principle all other could be opened up. But there are difficulties. There will be issues of data quality (i.e. internal users are aware and work around potential defects), data architecture (how the data hangs together) and all that should be included in the metadata. So it is not just the data uses but the constraints that need to be understood so that we can overcome any resistance and promoted. However, I see great potential of opening the data and revealing the flaws as it provides a way of improving the quality but how do we do that so that it is done in the best possible way (i.e. free of criticism and for the greater good).

Would be great to hear about any other non-developer uses of open government [...] · View

If G-Cloud is done right, we may see the ability for an eclectic mix of IT departments/vendors/volunteers etc. all working together (for a change) towards delivering services. That may apply to a lot of development but what about the fundamental day2day support? It be cool to explore the possibilities that if someone has a problem with their PC (e.g. local authority), that the person sorting it may be working in a completely different organisation (e.g. police) and there is a form of ’credits’ exchange. This informal arrangement could open up all sorts of possibilities that are a lot more cost effective(e.g. no need for purchase orders – could be based on bidding like eBay?).

Important that we consider not only Open Data but also Open Data Standards and Open Data Structures – combined this will open up the data but also facilitate interoperability and help reduce vendor lockin (opens up competition).
